At a meeting in Athens today, Olga Kefalogianni, Greece’s Minister of Tourism, and Karine Asselin, Canada’s Ambassador to Greece, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation in the tourism sector. Both nations have committed to increasing collaboration and sharing insights on travel and tourism to improve strategies and create opportunities for boosting tourism flows between Canada and Greece. The key areas of focus include institutional cooperation, the exchange of travel-related data, and the sharing of best practices for climate action in tourism.
Canada and Greece share a growing trade and investment relationship, supported by the Canada–European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). In 2024, their bilateral merchandise trade reached $645.8 million.
The two countries share a rich history based on mutual values such as democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The strong cultural ties between Canada and Greece are further strengthened by the nearly 300,000 Canadians of Greek descent and the many Canadians who live, work, and study in Greece, making the bond between the two nations even more significant.
The Government of Canada looks forward to deepening its bilateral ties with Greece and expanding its tourism sector, inviting more international visitors to benefit communities across the country.
